Bike Theft Prevention

Over 1,000 bicycles are reported stolen every year in Cincinnati. They are a popular target with thieves because they can easily be sold in other areas of town. They should be locked whenever you leave them, even if you are just going into a shop.

Bikes are particularly hard to identify as thier looks are so easily changed.SO always lock your bike when you leave it.  A D shaped shackle lock is your best bet against a determined thief.

Mark the frame with your social security number. This will help the police get it back to you if they find it - we have hundreds of unclaimed unidentified bikes. District Two has an engraver and will engrave your bike for free.

Always try to chain your bike to something, if you have quick release wheels take off the front and lock it to the rear wheel using a second lock if necessary.

To make identifying your bike if it stolen easier use this guide as to what items to record:

Gears

Handle bar type

List all accessories

The serial number that's stamped on the frame

A photo of your bike can often help the police in identification
