Crime Prevention:
National Night Out
National Night Out has been held the
first week in August every year since 1982. It's a showing from the community, it's
leaders and police that they are united against crime in their community.
Last year we broke with tradition and
hosted three separate events celebrating National Night Out in the District Two area.
The main District Two event took place at Alms Park which is located on a scenic bluff overlooking the Ohio River. Residents from Hyde Park, Madisonville, Mt. Lookout, Columbia Tusculum and East End joined in the festivities. About 225 residents joined together to show their support in preventing crime in their neighborhoods. With Specialist Dawn Keating acting as the hostess with the mostess for the occasion and Office Mike Drexelious burning the burgers everyone had a great time.
A little to the west in Evanston 150 residents came out to the Evanston Recreation Center and joined Officer Vinnie Edwards at her cookout. This years event highlighted the upcoming Weed and Seed initiative which seeks to revitalize the community.
Then in Mt. Washington 200 neighbors joined in celebration of their neighborhood watch and what it's done to reduce crime in their neighborhood. Officers Eric Franz and Tracee Dorn played host to the event while WCPO TV 9 ran a feature story on the efforts of the community to reduce crime.
Plans are being made now for our 2000 event. If your interested in helping us plan
