(Times - 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.)

We offer a monthly program for the general public. These programs have a specific theme for the evening as well as a period for investigating the seasonal constellations and planets.

In addition to our monthly Planetarium Shows, we are bringing in "Laser Magic", with showings from Saturday, February 9 through Sunday, February 17. This series features laser shows set to the music of Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and others as well as the highly-acclaimed "Legends of the Night Sky". an animated full dome laser presentation. Click here for the detailed Show schedule.

Public programs are held the fourth Thursday of each month. February's program will be "Follow The Drinking Gourd " on Thursday, February 28, 2008.

Laser Magic

This series features laser shows set to the music of Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and others as well as the highly-acclaimed "Legends of the Night Sky". an animated full dome laser presentation.

"Legends" tells the Greek mythology stories behind the constellations, Orion, Perseus, and Andromeda. This is a perfect family show as the humor and high quality animation is appealing to all ages.

Follow The Drinking Gourd

Drake Planetarium offers a wonderful story of human determination, hardship, and innovation based on the book by Jeanette Winter, "Follow The Drinking Gourd". The slaves in the old south were often kept ignorant of geography and other facts that might help them escape. The human spirit can overcome most difficulties, such is the case in our story. Many African Americans learned to get to the north by following the Big Dipper, which they called "The Drinking Gourd". Experience the plight of the slaves as they take on a dangerous journey to freedom. Search for winter constellations, learn a slave song and watch as a slave family uses the Big Dipper to escape to "freedom land."

Join us in this exciting true life adventure story. In it we combine history, astronomy, and folk lore.

Cost: $6.00 in advance, $7 at the door. Call 513-396-5578 to make your reservations. Must pre register for each show.

Drake Planetarium is now open for the public one evening a month, offering fascinating glimpses into the wonderful world of astronomy and space science.  Each monthly program is divided into two parts:

  1. The first section covers a particular topic of interest, for example, the Mars Lander, asteroids and near Earth collisions, the International Space Station, and the like.
  2. The second part is always an introduction into the nighttime sky.  Each person is given a free sky chart.

After learning how to use it, they are then taught to recognize the major constellations and planets visible at that season of the year
