If you need a little perking up and your regime is lacking that most essential ingredient...a more than satisfying round of golf, then I have just the formula to top up a summer’s fun. It takes little more than two or three hours, can be done for less than $2,000 (flight not included) and will leave you fully relaxed to tackle at least another four months of work. Step 1: Book a flight to Miami. Step 2: At the same time reserve a deluxe suite at the Biltmore Hotel. Step 3: On arrival in Miami a taxi ($17) is a better alternative to the airport Super Shuttle. Step 4: When you check in request a dinner reservation in the popular 1200 Courtyard Grill. Step 5: Visit the golf pro shop and make a morning tee time to play the par-71 1926 Donald Ross-designed golf course. Step 6: Take a table at the pool side bar and enjoy the hotel’s most extravagant attraction, the largest pool in the continental United States. Step 7: Order a refreshing rum punch. Step 8: Meander around the hotel’s historic halls for sensational celebrity sightings (the Biltmore’s list of luminaries is impressive). Step 9: Have the lobster salad sandwich with a glass of sauvignon blanc. Step 10: Arm yourself with reading material from the gift shop or nap by the pool. Step 11: After golf the second day at the Courtyard order their version of grilled asparagus and a filet steak with garlic mashed potatoes. Step 12: The third day try out the cardiovascular exercise area in the fitness center. Step 13: Treat yourself to an evening at the chic Palme d’Or, "Best French restaurant in the Southeast" according to Zagat. Step 14: Repeat steps 8 to 12 for as long as your budget will hold up. Host to kings and queens, the legendary Biltmore is no cookie-cutter hotel. It was built in 1926 and for the 79 years hence has received innumerable awards for its design features, service and cuisine. 276 guest rooms (rates: $259-$479 June to Sept) are beautifully furnished complete with flat screen plasma TV’s, T1 broadband internet access and robes and slippers. The Biltmore is situated in a distinctive residential area of Coral Gables, a 12-minute drive from Miami International Airport and five miles to downtown Miami. Phone 800-727-1926 for reservations or see www.biltmorehotel.com. Pat Pugh is a Houston-based travel writer. Her golf and outdoor features are published in Golf Houston and the English golf magazine Through The Green. She has received travel writing awards from Delta Airlines and the British Tourist Office.
