Hayward, Calif., July 25, 2005 – Bobby Jones Golf Company announced a strategic partnership with author and sports broadcast personality Ann Liguori that includes Liguori playing Bobby Jones Golf equipment and wearing its women's apparel, while advancing the company's expanded efforts to reach the women's market. Liguori will make personal appearances on behalf of the brand, work with the company around the major championships and serve the brand's media relations initiatives.
Liguori, a successful entrepreneur, owns her own television production company that produces a cable series called, "Sports Innerview with Ann Liguori." Her book, "A Passion for Golf, Celebrity Musings About the Game In 2001, Liguori became the first woman in sports media to be honored with the Association for Women in Communication's "Headliner's Award," previously awarded to Katherine Graham, Barbara Walters, Sylvia Porter and Gail Sheehy, to name a few. She also was the first woman to host and produce her own weekly, prime time series for The Golf Channel.
"Ann has successfully woven golf into her professional career using the sport as a conduit to secure access and interviews with personalities such as Celine Dion, Sylvester Stallone and Joe Pesci among others," said Walter Rosenthal, chairman and CEO of the Bobby Jones Golf Company. "We believe Ann's personality, charisma and experience will benefit our company greatly."
Bobby Jones Golf believes Liguori is capable of reaching women with the message that its new women's line, designed by renowned club maker Jesse Ortiz, is designed for enhanced performance and is the most aesthetically pleasing equipment on the market today. Bobby Jones by Jesse Ortiz women's line is designed for mid- to high-handicap women to maximize playability and, therefore, increase "the joy of playing the game," said Rosenthal. Crafted to create a 15-yard gap between clubs, this set has the same technology as the men's Players line, but in a sleeker, lower CG package, featuring a unique, patent-pending, shape and soleplate design.
The 400cc composite crowned driver has a generous, 14-degrees of loft to maximize launch angle. Beginning with the 18-degree 3-wood, each club is gapped five degrees in loft and 1.25 inches in length. The 3-, 5- and 7-woods are traditional fairway woods, while the 5- and 7-iron replacements are hybrids. An 8/9 iron, a pitching wedge and high-bounce, 59-degree sand wedge complete the nine-piece set. Each club may be purchased separately.
