Clinical psychologist Roberta Isleib has borrowed from her real-life experience at a Connecticut golf club to move her mystery series into the eccentric world of country club life. In PUTT TO DEATH (Berkley Prime Crime, April, 2004), the third in the series, Isleib's protagonist, Cassie Burdette, has hit a rough patch in her professional golf career and taken a job as a touring pro at a posh Connecticut club. When two club members pushing for change in gender equity and environmental policies run into serious trouble, Cassie realizes that more than tee times and bird houses must be at stake. Isleib was introduced to the game of golf by her husband-to-be in 1991, and hooked not long after. She took up writing articles about golf psychology in order to justify the time spent maintaining a whopping handicap. Her articles have been published in WOMEN'S WORLD OF GOLF, GOLF FOR WOMEN, TEE TIME MAGAZINE, MYSTERY SCENE, and NATIONAL GOLFER. Isleib's debut novel, SIX STROKES UNDER (Berkley Prime Crime, June 2002,) was nominated for a Malice Domestic Agatha award for Best First Mystery and an Anthony for Best Paperback Original. She has served on the board of directors at a Connecticut golf club for four years, and as chairperson of the green department for the last three.
