Clinical psychologist Roberta Isleib has borrowed from her real-life experience at a Connecticut golf club to move her mystery series into the eccentric world of country club life. "Think again if you don't believe you'd find motives for murder at a golf club," Isleib said. "Think Hootie Johnson and Martha Burk fighting over admitting women to Augusta National. Consider the lawsuits filed by Connecticut women against their own clubs over the past ten years. Think power struggles between environmentalists and developers." Isleib was introduced to the game of golf by her husband-to-be in 1991, and hooked not long after. She took up writing articles about golf psychology in order to justify the time spent maintaining a whopping handicap. Her articles have been published in WOMEN'S WORLD OF GOLF, GOLF FOR WOMEN, TEE TIME MAGAZINE, MYSTERY SCENE, and NATIONAL GOLFER. Isleib's debut novel, SIX STROKES UNDER (Berkley Prime Crime, June 2002,) was nominated for a Malice Domestic Agatha award for Best First Mystery and an Anthony for Best Paperback Original. She has served on the board of directors at a Connecticut golf club for four years, and as chairperson of the green department for the last three. Here's what they're saying about the Golf Lover's Mysteries: "And now with a woman in the PGA, this year's wonderful golf series by Roberta Isleib is hotter than ever. SIX STROKES UNDER is a stunning debut, chockablock with all the passions and perils of the Pro World and the clever Cassandra Burdette in competition." - Mystery Scene Magazine "SIX STROKES UNDER...reads like a Sunday afternoon watching Tiger Woods play - it's tough to take your eyes off it. Isleib expertly captures the myriad personalities of professional golf and the unique world of the country club and spins it like a Hollywood thriller." - New Haven Register "No need to question whether or not author Isleib has made the cut with her sophomore effort, A BURIED LIE reads as well as Annika Sorenstam plays. Cassie's dry wit, matched with the intriguing premise of medical shenanigans against this green backdrop, make for a read golf nuts and mystery readers will enjoy." - Blether.com
