American Express Women's Golf Month
Throughout the month of June, women will call the shots on the links, as American Express Women's Golf Month celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2009. A nationwide initiative, American Express Women's Golf Month seeks to provide people with the opportunity to learn or re-learn the game of golf in a fun and friendly environment, while also increasing the participation of women in golf.
During June, participating facilities will offer complimentary golf instruction to people 14 years of age and older as well as activities such as networking receptions, golf rules and etiquette seminars, club fitting and equipment demonstrations, golf apparel fashion shows, luncheons, playing experiences, and contests. Each activity is designed to provide a fun and inviting atmosphere for all involved. (Read full announcement here)

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Get Golf Ready Seeks
to Connect Adults to Golf
Get Golf Ready is targeted to the millions of U.S. adults who have never played golf, or who have minimal previous connection to the game. Participants will be provided with skills training as well as background on the game's rules, etiquette and values. The initiative is designed to bring adults into the game in a comfortable, enjoyable manner through a series of five introductory lessons in a small-group setting. Each of the five sessions features significant on-course learning opportunities. The program will be offered at several hundred golf facilities around the U.S. for $99 (pricing may vary by facility). Beginning in 2009, Get Golf Ready has set a goal of having 3,000 facilities offering the program by the end of 2011. Read Full Announcement

  • The EWGA's Naples, Fla., Chapter will hold its sixth EWGA Ladies Charity Pro-Am tournament on Saturday, June 13, at the Tiburon Golf Club, Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Fla.
  • Aldila reports that, according to Darrell Survey, it was the top woods and hybrids shaft manufacturer of choice at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. Aldila also had almost three times as many hybrid shafts in play as the next leading competitor.
  • Softspikes reports that its BLACK WIDOW Tour adjustable cleat was worn by the winner of the LPGA's Corning Classic, while the Softspikes brand overall also claimed the top three spots. Also, the PULSAR cleat captured a victory at the PGA Tour's HP Byron Nelson Championship. Softspikes also reports winning the plastic cleat count at the Valero Texas Open by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio, while the Pulsar cleat was worn by the respective winners at the LPGA's Sybase Classic, the Nationwide Tour's BMW Charity Pro-Am and Champions Tour's Regions Charity Classic.
