Afghan Hook Case
This case is good for storing afghan hooks or knitting needles. You could
also easily make a shorter version for regular hooks or pencils.
Pattern Directions:
For the tube...
- Ch 2
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around, sl st to beginning sc, ch 1
- Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from * around, sl st
to beginning sc, ch 1
- Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from * around, sl st
to beginning sc, ch 2
- Rnd 5: Working in back loop only, hdc in each st around, sl st to top
of beginning ch 2, ch 3 GUAGE: At this point stop to check the guage.
This bit should fit snuggly over the end of your cardboard tube. If not,
adjust your hook size appropriately and restart.
- Rnd 6: Dc in each st around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3, ch 2
- Rnd 7: Hdc in each st around, sl st to top of beinning ch 2, ch 3
- Rnd 8-36 (or how many you need to just reach the end of your cardboard
tube): Repeat rounds 6 and 7, at end of last round, ch 1 (instead of ch 3)
- Rnd 37: *Sc in next 2 st, pull up a loop in the next st, pull up a loop
in the next st, yo and pull thru all 3 loops on hook, repeat from * around,
sl st to beginning sc, fasten off.
For the cap...
- Rnd 1-4: Repeat rounds 1-4 of tube
- Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from * around, sl st
to beginning sc, ch 2
- Rnd 6: Working in back loop only, hdc in each st around, sl st to top
of beginning ch 2, ch 2
- Rnd 7-11: Hdc in each st around, sl st to top of beginning ch 2, ch 2
- Rnd 12: Hdc in each st around, sl st to top of beginning ch 2
- Rnd 13 (Optional Edging): *Ch 3, sl st in next st, repeat from * around,
fasten off
For the strap...
- Ch 41 leaving a 12" tail for sewing
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn
- Row 2: Sc in each st across, fasten off leaving a 12" tail for sewing

- The strap forms a handle on the top of the lid to use to open the
case as well as a handle on the side to use to carry the case. It also
functions as a hinge or tether so the cap doesn't get lost.

- Sew one end of the strap to the bottom of one side of the cap.
- Sew the strap to the top of the same side.
- Leaving some slack across the top, sew the strap at the top of the
opposite side.
- Sew the strap to the bottom of that side of the cap.
- Leaving some slack, sew the other end of the strap to the side of the
tube.
